5 Things to Remember About Business Cards

Millions of business cards are printed daily; they’re an essential marketing tool for any business, big or small. Here are a few short tips to remember when designing and using business cards!

Select Sturdy Paper

First impressions are crucial. A common correlation among research shows that first impressions are made within the first 7 seconds, however, recent studies by Princeton psychologists Janine Willis and Alexander Todorov show it might only be a tenth of a second! a tenth of a second! This little piece of paper is what a future client or customer is left with, how do you want your company portrayed? Selecting the right kind of paper can be as important as what is on the business card. Search for a deal that’s economical, but don’t be afraid to spend the couple extra cents for good material.

Use White Space

Don’t let your business card be too busy. Use a balance of design and white space, even if it isn’t necessarily white, per se. Our eyes like things that are aesthetically pleasing, things that are appealing to the eye. Make your business card attractive and easy to navigate.

Less Is More

Remember, you’re handing out a business card, not a mini paragraph. Keep the information to the basics: company name, sales associate/business owner name, and two forms of contact. Other information such as a website, location, multiple language spoken, social media accounts and office hours can be helpful, just be wary to not clutter the card.

Keep It Consistent

Business cards are meant to reflect your business. Colors and fonts should be consistent with what would be found on websites and brochures. Due to the small size of business cards, it is recommended to use no more than two fonts.

Always Leave a Business Card

Whether it was a business meeting, an event, or simply giving out your information, leave a business card. Even when you don’t think it’s necessary, leave a business card. Make it a rule of thumb, hand them out like candy. Though 88% of business cards are thrown out within a week of being handed out, company sales increase 2.5% for every 2,000 business cards handed out! Who knew a little piece of paper could go such a long way?
